Introduction to Speakers Business Plans

One of the most basic — and most essential — activities you need to perform is to create your business plan. But not just any business plan, and certainly not a business plan that's appropriate for most businesses. No, you need a speaker's business plan, a working, written business plan that's crafted specifically to meet the unique challenges faced by professional speakers.

Although you have a great deal of flexibility in what order you develop the different parts of your business plan, it's probably a good idea to read through the entire Focus first. After you have a good idea of what the business plan will eventually look like, you can then proceed to develop the parts in whatever order works best for you. (But I do recommend that you start with your business summary. Doing that first will help you to write the other parts.)

Furthermore, writing your business plan will possibly take you several weeks (or quite possibly months), so you don't have to put everything else on hold until your business plan is complete. If you need to, develop the other portions of your business in parallel with writing your business plan. But do start to develop your written working<.> business plan as soon as possible, and then work on it as you're able.

It's not an exaggeration to say that your success in defining your business with a written working plan will greatly determine your success in your business itself. So get started, and good luck!
